Flexible dates, low rates. You set your own schedule, when it suits you.
Wheel-working:
Skills to make pieces on the wheel are: centering, opening up, compression, pulling the wall (getting "the cylinder") then shaping & trimming.
All of the above stages are required to form each and every various shape able to be made on the potter's wheel.
For example, basic shapes are:
cylinder, bowl, vase, mug, cup (with/out handle), jug, bottle, closed-in pot, plate / platter, split bowl (eg: chip 'n' dip, juicer, pet bowl, Toroid (Donut shaped vessel); lidded pot (eg: casserole pot, tagine, butter / cheese dish, fermentation or crock pots), joined pot (2 or more pieces, to gain height) and...., the "Teapot".
Once the basic forms are mastered, the following variations in skills can be learned to extend your skill set:
-> Size, eg: large, extra large, small, miniature;
-> Multiples of the same piece, eg: same height, thickness & shape for each piece;
-> Sets (each piece looking like they're matching), eg: cup, saucer, bowl (small & large), plate (small & large);
-> Using the throwing tool & coil 'n' throw (to get very large pieces using smaller amounts of clay);
-> Modifying the surface or decorating; eg: Incising, Relief, using Slips / slip trailing , Sgraffito, Burnishing, Terra Sigilatta, Sodium Silicate, Ball Clay, Mocha Diffusion, etc,.
PLEASE NOTE:
Pottery can be challenging, sometimes on the first few goes, you might not create something you love.
We will do our best to help coach you along the way but the outcomes can sometimes be unpredictable.
Wheelwork is also renown for being very physical, requiring a lot of concentration, focus, dexterity and can be quite stressful if you're not prepared for the physicality of it especially with the wheel spinning whilst trying to control the clay -> prevent it from collapsing.
If you are susceptible to anxiety, wheelwork may not be for you.

Decide on a date & time,
Then .... -> Let me know what session you want to do & -> When you would like to come along, -> You decide when it suits you, -> provided spaces are available .... Please see "Calendar" for availability, -> choose when you want to come. To understand the calendar: -> I have 4 wheels so if there is less than 4 people booked for a date and time, then there are still spaces available. -> Also, if I have anyone booked for handbuilding on a particular day / time, then I'm not available to do wheel work. -> If you are a beginner and want to join in with an existing booking time, please only select one with other beginners. Notes: -> Please wear old clothes & shoes you are happy to get clay on (washes off with water); -> If you have longish hair, please bring something to tie hair back. -> Please also bring an old (standard sized) towel each (for use across your knees on the wheel). NOTE - there is a $10 per person levy, if you need to use one of my towels. Recommendations for wheelwork: -> To not wear finger or wrist jewellery (the clay & wheel will abrade them); -> It is better to have very short nails (nails tear the clay as you are throwing). |
