Sandra Karen Albin
Born & bred in Fremantle, W.A., living and working in Freo teaching & making pottery on the wheel & handbuilding. I'm the proprietor of Sandra Karen Albin Pottery (SKAPots), t/as Fremantle Pottery Classes and, Fremantle Potters Group. I provide classes for people of all levels of experience as well as running firing services for other Studios and Potters in need of kiln space. I also have studio space available for people wanting to further their pottery practice and don't have a space of their own.
I have been doing pottery for 40+ years now, starting my journey with clay at age 25 while raising 2 children when I joined the Dolphin Arts & Crafts group in Mandurah, WA.
I played with clay fairly consistently (almost daily) for over 6 years back then, initially learning handbuilding, then wheel, then how to fire kilns then became the teacher at the club. I also started a Fine Arts degree at Rockingham TAFE and after a year needed to go back to full time work again so it became an occasional hobby but I kept it in my life, coming back to it regularly over the years.
My particular love is where I can use a combination of both the wheel & handbuilding techniques to create a unique piece.
I've been teaching pottery again since March, 2017 now (after being made redundant from the IT industry) initially starting the Fremantle Potters Group in White Gum Valley with Ross McCallum (also a local Freo identity and an awesome Potter). Then, when Ross went overseas, I moved the studio to my home in June 2017 and have been going ever since.
