Class cancellations or rescheduled
We (SKAPots) may from time to time (eg: due to COVID-19 restrictions) need to cancel class/es.
In the event of this happening, we will endeavour to give you as much notice as possible.
If this happens, or you need to reschedule, a voucher to equivalent value can be issued for you to select an alternative day / time, once the studio re-opens.
We do NOT do refunds, so please choose your session carefully.
There's no cancellation fee if you need to cancel or reschedule your booking for any reason, provided a minimum of 1 days' notice prior to the scheduled start day / time is given.
Cancellations with less than 24 hours’ notice will be forfeit, ie: not able to be rescheduled or receive a credit voucher.
Vouchers and / or classes can be both on-sold or transferred to another person, friend, or family member. You must advise us of the person’s first & last name & a contact number for them, in this event.
Vouchers are valid from the day of the initial issue date or booking date (whichever is earlier).
Safety
To ensure all patrons and SKAPots staff feel comfortable and safe we reserve the right to request anyone not acting in a manner we feel is harmonious, to leave the premises immediately.
If this should occur to you, no refund or credit voucher will be issued and you may be refused from booking future classes.
Please adhere to any safety instructions from your instructor whilst in the Studio.
No-one must enter the kiln room at any time unless accompanied by your instructor.
Pottery breakage
Although all due care is taken with your pieces, due to the nature of clay, we cannot guarantee every piece will survive the firing process.
We take all precautions to ensure your work is fired safely, but we cannot take responsibility for cracks, breakages, or accidental damage to your work (eg: from other pieces) occurring during the firing process - this is the nature of clay - pottery is a beautiful yet delicate process.
Sadly, sometimes pieces break during the firing process. Due to this, there are limitations on the size of your items, to help minimise this risk and ensure you have a functional piece to take home.
In the unfortunate case where your piece cracks or breaks in the kiln, we do not offer refunds.
In the case where breakages occur due to mishandling, you will be contacted and offered a full refund of your firing fee or a replica replacement piece made for you.
Firing Services
We reserve the right to refuse to fire any items.
Please make sure you complete the Firing Register form correctly, including your full name & phone number - in case we need to contact you with any questions.
All work submitted for firing must have your ID / Makers Mark on each piece. Your ID needs to be legible and visible (e.g.: not covered by glaze)
Work is sorted into the kilns according to size and readiness, large or wet work may take longer to process.
We glaze fire Stoneware to Cone10 (1285oC) & bisque to Cone 06 (1000oC).
All other glaze firing temperatures (eg: Mid-Range, Earthenware, or low-fire temperature clays) must be specified on the Firing Register form.
Your work will be fired the way you present it - in the box (e.g.: if you put the lid on the pot, they will be fired together, if you leave the lid next to the pot they will be fired separately).
Make sure your piece is upright (unless otherwise instructed) and stable, or it may be refused to be fired.
Your work will be sorted by height, so pots and lids may not always be fired in the same kiln or at the same time (if placed separately).
The preferred firing method is for pieces to be bisque fired first, then glazed and gloss fired but we can single fire (glazed greenware - raw clay).
Single fire method can be hazardous to other work so you must be able to fill a kiln if you want to do this type of firing.
If you use runny glazes or Trachyte in your clay, you must provide a bisque fired clay cookie to put under each piece.
We may elect not to fire your work, if:
Damage to kilns and shelves
If a kiln or kiln shelves / furniture are damaged (due to runny glaze etc.) you will either be charged a fee for repairing the damage to the kiln or kiln furniture or full price to replace same, depending on the severity of the damage.
If this occurs, our decision is final. No discussion will be entered into.
You may also be charged for damage to other people’s work (if that occurs).
Collection of Students’ work & uncollected pieces
Students’ pieces will be ready for glazing or collection for the following monthly glazing session.
Feel free to pop into the studio after that time to pick up your pieces or contact us.
Pieces not collected within THREE (3) months from when they have been fired will be considered abandoned and become the property of the Studio.
If you are unable to collect your work within this timeframe, please contact the Studio to make alternative arrangements.
Open Studio - Using the Studio space (no instruction)
Please be vigilant to the Studio ethos (Reduce, Re-use & Recycle) as much as possible in following these rules, especially where water usage is concerned:
• Enter at own risk. SKAPots accepts no responsibility for any injury or loss sustained within the Studio, including entering or leaving.
• Studio gate to be kept closed unless transferring people / equipment / pieces to / from a vehicle.
• Reparation for any damage to Studio equipment, fixtures & fitting (incl. café curtains) is at your expense and will be invoiced accordingly at replacement value.
If this occurs, our decision is final. No discussions will be entertained.
• All surfaces used (incl. splashed with clay) must be washed with water and left in a clean state, eg: tables, inside & outsides of potters’ wheels, extruders, heat guns, floors & café curtains, etc.
• Heat guns must always be placed in upright position after use (ie: nozzle pointing upwards).
• All tools & containers used must be cleaned with water from wash station containers (where possible), eg: incl. banding wheels, rolling pins, hand extruders, heat guns, any containers / buckets used, etc.
• All equipment used must be stacked away in same location taken from and left in a tidy state,
eg: slab roller, rolling pins, banding wheels, batts, heat guns & containers / buckets, etc.
• Any leftover clays we recycle (see list below) can, if you wish, be put into the applicable recycling buckets, bags or on recycling plaster batts.
NOTE1: Please ask if you don’t know which / where these are.
